I have been praying for some time that Bree's deliver of this new little one would be much easier for her than Llayton's delivery. That was just an ordeal that we all didn't want her to go through again!
We certainly saw our prayers answered with Caiden's birth. After all tests were run, the doctor said that Bree could be induced, the baby was developed and really didn't need for him to get any bigger, since she is so small.
A date was set, Brett flew home from his summer sales job in Canada and her mother came in from California. She went into the hospital at 3:00 am, Friday, June 11th already dilated to a 3 and 75% effaced.
Brett called at 6 am saying she was at a 4 and they had just given her the epidural. I showered and got ready and left by half hour later with Megan, who was photographing the event. Just after we got in the car a text came in from Brett, " She is at a 10. So if we are going to do picture you guys might want to hurry . she's not pushing cause Dr. Groom isn't here. But it is going super fast."
Fifteen minutes later, I tested and said we were getting off the freeway. He replied that the doctor still wasn't there but they were putting her in the stirrups. Bree was resisting the push but she can feel him coming out.
At the hospital entrance, I dropped Megan off. She ran threw the halls and was snapping pictures as she entered the room. I parked and ran, well, ran and walked fast, huffy and puffing the whole way!
Megan made it into the room maybe two minutes before the birth. She actually got pictures of Bree's face as he was coming out - she was grinning and laughing.
Bree didn't even break a sweat!
Bree told the nurse that she felt like he was coming out, (she could feel the baby's head against her legs) she pulled the sheet back to see - he was! She said, "Let's go." I think Bree just lifted her upper body so she could see the birth. But she didn't even push. He just slid out!
As I ran past the nurses station to ask for her room, I heard happy voices in the distance and then a cry! I came in just the second after he was born. (Last picture as I am holding her foot, you will see my reaction.)
It was amazing! What a joy to come into such a happy, wonderful event.
Terri, Bree's mom made it just about 5 minutes before I did. We all beat Dr. Groom.
Heather Camp, who was Bree's nurse at Llayton's delivery was the one who delivered Caiden. That was such a blessing to have her there as she knew Bree's history with Llayton. Poor Dr. Groom. You could see the disappointment on his face. He said he was so surprised, expecting her to deliver in the later morning hours, early afternoon. He said he shouldn't have taken that shower this morning!
Caiden weighed 6 lb 13 oz and was 19 inches long with black hair like Llayton. Bree is doing fabulous. She so deserved this birth after Llayton's. We are so happy for her and Brett.
I am so grateful to be allowed to be a part of these experiences. They create a memory for me that I cherish. But I also respect wishes of privacy during birth as it is such a personal event.
