Girl's Night

While Megan was here in town, the girls got together to make these darling pin cushions. We made them in our RS presidency for birthdays and I thought it would be fun for us to do together. We always enjoy being together. They mostly talk about having babies. Lana doesn't want to hear it and I just listen. They are good moms!

We Share!

Kenny and Megan have been home for a week. Law school is off this week while the students set up intern work during the summer. (Kenny will be interning for Judge Lloyd George and Jeff Boyce). Bennett didn't feel so great when he came down. They took him into the doctor and found he has RSV. The next day Llayton started coughing. He went into the doctor and he has RSV! The poor, darling babies!

Llayton wants to eat his. As long as Baby Einstein is on the TV, Bennett with put his in his mouth. They both like Baby Einstein!

Chad was able to get Llayton. He would laugh and then it would turn into a cough.

Brett and Bree decided it was time to give Llayton his first haircut. I am sure there was a bit of sadness, but it was certainly getting long. The top was about 3" long and, as you can see, it hung over his ears. When his hair is dry, it is straight; but when it is wet, it curls. It looks so cute after it's wet and gelled, it would stays curly.

They put the cape over him but he just wanted to eat it! Bree held him while Brett cut his hair.

My cell phone rang in the morning while Chad and I were in Santa Barbara. (I was at a photography workshop.) It was Trent. He said to put him on speaker phone so both Chad and I could hear. My first response was, "Is it bad." He said no. Here how the conversation went in a nutshell:

Trent: I have been looking at other options for schools to get my MBA besides University of Phoenix. There is a school that has accepted my application mainly on my work experience. It will cost about the same as Univ. of Phoenix. It is a program where I can take half of the classes on line and half of them I will take at their university.

Me: So, where is the other college?

Trent: It's in Cambridge.

Me: Isn't that in Boston?

There was a pause...

Me: Isn't that....Harvard! You mean Harvard!

Trent: Yea, it is.

There were cheers, screams and many joyous sounds and I could hardly contain myself! But I had too. It was his story to tell and I didn't want take it from him. However, he won't hardly tell anyone so I have taken on that duty.

He keeps saying it is 'no big deal' but I say it is a big deal. Here is why...

In elementary school, his second grade teacher wanted to put him in the reading improvement program (with the 'not-so-smart' kids). I refused. Instead we put him in tutoring programs like Sylvan. Chad's mother said, "Spend his college education money now to get him through school". He never really enjoyed school and pulled the grades he needed to finish. But we didn't think college was ever anything he would want to go on to. I think Sesily has been a big influence and encouraged him to go to college.

I also believe our financial crisis helped Trent to see just how important an education is. If he were to lose everything, without an education, what kind of job could he get that would support a family. It was at that time that he started University of Phoenix and has gone year around to finish - which he will in May.

But, Trent tells us that he is not officially accepted into the program until he passes the first three classes with a 'B' average. He also says it is a masters of management program specially for business owners which is different than a MBA.

Plans are very tentative but they are thinking of going to Boston for the first semester starting in August. He will come home and take the other courses on line and then has to finish the last semester back on campus in Boston.

Isn't that so exciting for them! What a great opportunity. We are really proud of his accomplishments and whether he finishes at University of Phoenix or Harvard, we couldn't be more pleased with the good person he is.

Highlights from Christmas

Each year, I get a Christmas book to read before gifts. Every persons name goes into a bowl and we draw for the person who gets to keep the book. Would you believe that every year, Kenny's name has been drawn out! He is getting a nice collection of Christmas books! We joke that he surely couldn't win it this year, but he has.

Brett always wants toys for Christmas. I rarely buy toys; they are a waste of money to me. So this year he bought his own remote control airplane and one for Chad so they could play together. And actually, I did buy a silly little remote control mini coup this year. But I don't think they have used them. See, it's a waste!

I thought my gift was so clever - goldfish! Trent opened them and wouldn't take them home. So a few days later, I put them in the back of his car after he left our house. Sesily is a good sport to take care of these silly things. They have only lost one! Sorry Ses!



Late on Christmas eve, we finally got around to opening our new Christmas pj's. (It's a girl thing only.) Then we headed down to the basement for our 'photo shoot'! Brett was our photographer this year and right now he is putting together a slide show of it. Thank you girls, for being so fun! Here are just two of the MANY!

Christmas with the Lee's

This year we had a progressive dinner (well, it didn't really progress since we stayed at Sesily's house!) We had appetizers, soups and yummy desserts. It is always enjoyable just visiting with one another.

Before the Lee's came, our familee exchanged the 'siblings gifts' as well as Lana and Tyson opening their gifts. They left the next day for Utah to spend Christmas with Tyson's family.

This is probably my most favorite gift ever! (what Bree is holding). We first started it with Cohen and every baby now has their own. Lana's purchases the build-a-bear and a recorder for each new baby. Inside the hand is a recorder. When you squeeze the hand, the recording plays the first cry of that baby. Each of the boys have been able to record their baby's cry as soon as they are born. It is the funnest and most tender gift.
